Thrifting can be a pretty overwhelming experience but there are a few approaches that can make the journey more successful and enjoyable. Here are my top five tips to up your thrift game.
Make a beeline to the plus-size blouses. I always find amazing blouses that I can wear as dresses or beach cover-ups. These are super versatile and also the cheapest items I find. See the two blouses featured above and in my shop that are examples of this.
Do not overlook the “sets section” which is often located near the dresses or the athleticwear. you can find the most amazing matching sets that are truly making a comeback at the moment. If Sienna Miller is wearing it then it’s cool, right?
Take your time in the men’s t-shirt aisle. I have found epic band tees and perfectly aged plain t-shirts that I wear all of the time. Old Hanes tees age really well and is the most versatile item of clothing I wear.
If you find something that looks vintage but you are not entirely sure, then take a look at the label to see if it was made in the USA. Most of the clothing production in the US stopped in the late 80s so if you find a tag that says “made in the USA” then it’s almost guaranteed that it’s vintage and that you should buy it.
The dress section will always offer the most promising options. If you only visit one section in a thrift store make it this one especially if you’re trying to keep your visit short. I always find great shapeless shifts and 90s micro florals.
